Project Description

CH2M Barry were appointed by Meath County Council to provide services in relation to the geotechnical site investigation for the scheme and the project appraisal for the N52 Stephenstown to Fringestown Scheme.

The realignment of this 3km section of this National Secondary Road required the preparation design of the detailed Site Investigation and the preparation of the relevant tender documents. CH2M Barry carried out the tender action, evaluation and award stage, and supervised the investigation works onsite and scheduled the lab testing required. CH2M Barry then prepared an geotechnical interpretive report based upon the factual reportinformation provided by the Contractor. Geotechnical challenges along the proposed scheme corridor included a 12m cut in glacial till and underlying bedrock and an area of peat and soft ground. The proactive approach taken by Meath Co. Co. in communications with landowners along with Halcrow Barry’s close supervision of the works ensured the fieldworks aspect of the project ran smoothly.

In accordance with the NRA Project Appraisal Guidelines (PAG) Unit 14.0 Non-Major Schemes, CH2M Barry prepared the Project appraisal Report and Project Appraisal Balance Sheet for the scheme, which documented the likely costs and benefits of the scheme as designed.

Halcrow Barry’s brief was subsequently extend to include the preparation of a Road Safety Impact Assessment in accordance with NRA HD 18/12. The objective of this Road Safety Impact Assessment was to ensure that the implications on road safety of different planning alternatives are fully assessed as part of both feasibility study and route selection process. This assessment shall indicate the road safety considerations which contribute to the choice of the proposed solution.
